I've never heard of a connection, and it does seem there's a vast difference in their approaches (the doctor's raw greed vs Selkirk's attempts to set up working emigration policies.) Also I'm not away of emigration from here to either PEI or Red River, so I don't think Lewis was an object of Selkirk's attention. Though no doubt his theories on emigration informed later policies implemented here, by Matheson for instance. (the theory: http://www.hebrideanconnections.com/Details.aspx?subjectid=40714)

If anyone knows of a connection with our Doctor we'd be glad to hear of it though.
