Sarah, I just picked up on this piece by accident. I'm from Scarp and knew this great boat very well

She was called Guide Me (SY 7) and John J MacLennan is right in saying that in Scap we called her Eathar Uilleam Dhuibh

I suspect she was built in the 1920s

A recent replacement boat has been called Stiuir Mi in her memory

I was in Govic yesterday and the liklihood is that when the boat came to Scarp it was referred to as "eathar Uilleam Dubh" (Uilleam Dubh's boat) and over time took on the name Uilleam Dubh. This is sounds entirely plausible.

Thanks - that's interesting, and we didn't know that. The only complication is that apparently the boat was built and went to Scarp c1940, before William died - but perhaps it was actually later.
