Myrna - very interesting. Thanks for that. As Frog Lake happened just a few days before the Fort Pitt attack - were Wandering Spirit's hostages 'merged' with Big Bear's Fort Pitt ones? Or is there more to the story than that?

Eliza's account is online courtesy of the Beaver (links above now) - according to that, she died in april 1947. Also just found that the garrison commander at Fort Pitt was Francis Dickens, son of Charles.

I am the author of the just-published Frog Lake Reader: www.newestpress.com. Sixteen-year-old Eliza, the other Mclean daughter who wrote about her two months as the (voluntary) hostage of war chief Wandering Spirit, is featured in the book along with her father's text. I have not been able to find any trace of Eliza after 1895.
